Cherokee Challenge names inaugural class of startups that will receive funding
The Cherokee Challenge, an accelerator focused on environmental ventures, announced Thursday its inaugural class of startups that will receive funding.
LYF Shoes and JouleBug of Raleigh and Sanitation Creations of Carrboro will receive $20,000 in seed funding, complimentary office space in Raleigh from June through August, back office support, as well as mentoring from a committee of entrepreneurs and investors.
LYF Shoes is making custom-fit footwear with a sustainable design. JouleBug is developing a mobile app to encourage good energy behavior.
Sanitation Creations is developing the Dungaroo, which is a waterless and cost-efficient portable toilet to solve the world’s sanitation crisis. Sanitation Creations expects to begin consumer trials of the toilet soon.
The Challenge is sponsored by Raleigh-based private equity firm Cherokee Investment Partners.
