Apple backer Venrock invests $10M in Appia

Durham tech company Appia has secured a $10 million investment from Venrock, one of the best-known venture capital firms in Silicon Valley and an early investor in Apple Inc. (NasdaqGS: AAPL).
Appia will use the new capital to accelerate product development of its open app marketplace and launch app stores. The company also will speed hiring as a result, adding a possible 10 to 15 more workers in the next few months.
The company currently has 51 employees, 26 of whom are in the Durham headquarters in the American Tobacco...
