Researchers at Princeton University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology have developed an iPhone app that could let drivers avoid red lights by slowing down in time to avoid stopping. A dashboard-mounted phone gathers information from a network of other smart phones similarly mounted, to track traffic signals and alert drivers when slowing down could help them avoid red lights.
